Lionbridge is seeking skilled Spanish-English Over-the-Phone Interpreters to support the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), a branch of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
As a Freelance Interpreter, you’ll play a vital role in helping callers navigate sensitive immigration-related conversations by accurately translating between Spanish and English in real time. This fully remote, on-demand opportunity is ideal for bilingual professionals who value flexible work, meaningful impact, and cultural connection.
🕓 Schedule: Flexible (on-demand, during U.S. business hours)
⏱ Call Duration: Typically 10–30 minutes each
📅 Recommended Minimum: 16 hours per week (option to increase to full-time)
📋 Key Responsibilities
Answer and interpret live, on-demand phone calls between English and Spanish speakers.
Accurately convey meaning, tone, and cultural context for both parties.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism during sensitive or legal discussions.
Receive and apply training in terminology, industry standards, and interpreter ethics.
Handle three-way conversations with consistency, accuracy, and composure.
🧩 Preferred Qualifications & Requirements
Advanced fluency in Spanish and English (spoken).
Exceptional memory retention, note-taking, and listening skills.
U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Green Card (required).
Must have resided in the U.S. for 3 of the last 5 years.
Willingness to complete a government background check, fingerprinting, and DHS paperwork.
Prior interpretation experience preferred but not required (training provided).
Reliable home workspace and strong phone/internet connection.
