💼 Employment Type: Full-Time or Part-Time
📍 Location: Remote (U.S.)
💬 Job Overview
Hummingbird Healthcare is building a more human, accessible healthcare experience — and as a Remote Triage Nurse, you’ll be the calm, clinical voice patients turn to when they’re uncertain about their symptoms or next steps.
In this contact-center–based nursing role, you’ll conduct telephone triage using Epic’s Nurse Triage module, assess symptoms, rule out urgent red flags, and guide patients toward the safest, most appropriate level of care. You’ll spend most of your day managing back-to-back calls, documenting in real time, and supporting patients with clarity, empathy, and evidence-based guidance.
This position is part of Hummingbird’s Triage Nurse Talent Pool, meaning applications are reviewed continuously and start dates generally occur 2–6 months after applying. If you’re seeking clinical impact without bedside demands — and want a structured, supportive remote environment — this role is an excellent fit.
📋 Key Responsibilities
Conduct telephone triage using Epic workflows and client-specific protocols, asking focused questions to assess symptoms and determine urgency.
Provide clear recommendations for next steps, ensuring patients understand their care pathway.
Verify patient information, protect privacy under HIPAA, and coordinate with clinic teams for appointments or escalations.
Document calls accurately in the EHR while navigating multiple systems simultaneously.
Manage emotionally sensitive conversations with empathy, professionalism, and clinical sound judgment.
Participate in ongoing training, coaching, and continuous-improvement initiatives to strengthen quality and workflows.
🧩 Requirements
Current and unrestricted RN license in North Carolina (willingness to obtain additional state licensure as needed).
1+ year of telephone triage experience or 3+ years of clinical nursing experience (primary care, emergency, home health, or med-surg preferred).
Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills with the ability to follow standardized protocols.
Comfort with remote contact-center work: back-to-back calls, performance metrics, multitasking, and real-time documentation.
Excellent communication skills — able to translate clinical concepts into clear, patient-friendly language.
Adherence to HIPAA, confidentiality standards, and protocol-driven workflows.
Nice to Have:
EPIC System experience
Previous telehealth or triage experience
Compact nursing license eligibility
